If you’ve invested in new cabinetry for your home, whether it is your kitchen, bathroom, or built-ins in an area such as your mudroom or laundry room, it is essential that you care for the surfaces of this cabinetry.

Most modern cabinets are painted, as opposed to solid wood. There are certain standards of care that you must adhere to to ensure the longevity of both the material and the finish.

Although cabinetry is easy to maintain, this does not mean that you should forego maintenance altogether!

Using our industry experience, we have put together some visuals and instructions that demonstrate what TO do in terms of caring for your cabinetry, and what NOT to do:

In summary, your cabinetry will absorb what is around it!

Depending on the frequency of use and the location of your cabinetry, the regularity of cleaning will differ.

For daily use, spot clean daily. If you only use every so often, ensure the surfaces get a clean approximately once weekly. Deep cleans should take place on a quarterly basis

Depending on how stubborn the stain is, there are different cleaning solutions that are both effective and safe. For light cleaning, you only need a soft cloth with warm water to shine the surface. For grease and fingerprints, equal parts vinegar and water will do the trick. For tough stains, a two to one ratio of baking soda to water, left to sit and wiped away with a clean cloth will be sure to rid of the stain.

Caring for your cabinetry is one thing, but staying AWAY from certain chemicals and materials is another way to care for your cabinetry! We strongly advise against using:

  • Tough cloths or S.O.S pads
  • Bleach
  • Acetone
  • Windex
  • Hard Water

It is also important that you dry your cabinetry thoroughly after cleaning.

Utilizing these tips and avoiding certain products and materials on these surfaces will ensure both longevity and a “brand new” look and feel to your cabinetry as the years pass.
